Bert's Clean Water Filter
Bert's Clean Water Filter

Introduction

Finding new and better ways to produce drinkable water is a growing concern.

Objectives

To create a water filter

Materials

  • Quart jar
  • Coffee filter
  • Funnel (big enough to place over the mouth of the jar)
  • Potting soil or dirt
  • Plastic cup (12 to 16 ounce)
  • Water
  • Plastic spoon

Procedure

Fill the cup with water until it is half full. Spoon some soil into the water until it is dark. Place the funnel over the mouth of the glass jar and put the coffee filter into the funnel. Slowly pour the water mixture into the funnel. Wait for the water to drain through the filter before adding more. Watch what happens!

Conclusion

The water that flows into the jar will appear cleaner. The coffee filter acts like a water filter and catches some of the soil, separating it from the water. The water that flows into the jar is cleaner than the water mixture that was poured into the filter. Water filters are used to remove impurities from our water and help make drinking water cleaner.
